Eat, Pray, Love

Most people by now have either read this book, or watched the movie. Nevertheless,
I feel the need to write a review about this book, for those who haven't read it yet.
Simply put, this book deserves to be in the bestseller section, and yes, the book is definitely better than the movie due to its more in-depth exploration of finding one's self, rising above life's challenges, love, devotion, and God (plus interesting tidbits about Italy, India and Bali!). It is not one of those superficial chic-lit books that you read once (if you do) and forget about. This is something you can read over and over again, through the years and gain insight and strength from. It's a beautiful story of Elizabeth's transformation and redemption after a series of difficult circumstances in her life, mainly after her divorce.

The author Elizabeth Gilbert, writes in a way that instantly draws you to her story, and to her experiences. It is one of those books that is hard to put down. She tells it as if she is talking to her good friend, plus more. With the vivid description of her emotions, the places and the people she met, you feel one with her, and as if you too, in some level, have embarked in your journey of finding pleasure, peace and happiness in Italy, India and Bali Indonesia.

Not only is the book better than the movie, it also has a lot of insights on how to deal with one's own challenges in life. The emotional heaviness of disappointment, loss and not having a clue of what to do, is common to most people, and many would find her words comforting, that you are not alone in your despair. She is a source of inspiration and strength. Along her journey, you are awakened to many divine insights and practices that you can try as well in your life.

Another great thing about this book, is her sense of humor. I would find myself laughing on my own at times, with her witty and funny way of thinking. Her ability to incorporate humor in a book that sprouted from difficulty and sadness, made this book all the more interesting, and a great read.

For lovers of food, travel, life and God, or for anyone going through a rough time in their lives, I would 100% recommend this book. A great book and a great gift. I feel blessed to have had the chance to read this book, enjoy her story, and ultimately, learn from it.

All fives from me :)
